Championship Week College Football Picks

I come into Championship Week with a 33-28 record on the season. At the beginning of the year few people would have thought that some of the teams that are playing for a conference title would be in contention for the conference lead, but that's what we love about college football. Championship has everything from the Civil War to decide who goes the the Rose Bowl to a 1 vs 2 match up in the SEC Title game. Let the games begin.

Oregon State at Oregon- As if the Civil War was not big enough all by itself, this game is even bigger than normal. The winner will be Pac 10 Champs and will earn a trip to the Rose Bowl to play Ohio State. Considering the start to Oregon's season in Boise the fact that they are even close to a Rose Bowl berth is amazing all in itself. Oregon's D has struggled of late though as Stanford put up 51 on em a few weeks ago. Oregon State has one of the best halfbacks in the country and isn't really talked about as much as he should be. Don't expect this game to be lacking points as they will be abound with two of the better offenses in the country. The Ducks are at home but they are coming of a scare from Arizona a week ago and Oregon State has far more talent than the Wildcats. Oregon State was close to a Rose Bowl game last year, they wont let it slip away 2 years in a row.

Oregon State 48 Oregon 45

Georgia Tech vs Clemson- Both of these teams are coming off of a loss the week prior to the ACC Championship against in state rivals. A big question mark for Clemson is the health of C.J. Spiller, he is the play maker for Clemson and without him they really struggle. Georgia Tech meanwhile will run all over you if you are not careful and they have several different ways to do it. The Ramblin Wreck has lived up to that name this year as they have just run through most of their opponents this year. Clemson probably feels they should have won against the Jackets in the regular season but that was WITH a healthy C.J. Spiller, Jacoby Ford is going to have a lot on his plate as is Kyle Parker and quite frankly I think it will be to much for the Tigers to overcome.

Georgia Tech 31 Clemson 24

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh- Cincy showed everyone something last week against Illinois: they can light up a scoreboard. Pitt is coming off of a heartbreak against West Virginia in the Back Yard Brawl and will look to return the favor to the unbeaten Bearcats. Pitt has had questions on d all year and Saturday should be no different Pike will pick em apart and the Pitt offense is not good enough to keep up with the offense of Cincy. In a battle for the Big East Crown Cincy will prove why they are 11-0 and in the top 5 in the country.

Cincinnati 45 Pittsburgh 34

Texas vs Nebraska- Unbeaten vs. spoiler could be the headline going into this weeks Big 12 title game. Hook 'em has been rolling along especially on offense led by Heisman candidate Colt McCoy. However they did allow Texas A&M to put up 39 points on Thanksgiving night, but McCoy was able to put points on the board when he had to taking matters into his own hands. Nebraska is a much better all around team than the Aggies are and Sue will be locking down the line putting pressure on McCoy. Nebraska also has talent on offense as they have a true blue collar running back which should take a little pressure off of Zac Lee who must have a solid game to give Nebraska a shot. In the end McCoy leads Texas on a Championship drive and make the Horns Big 12 Champs.

Texas 45 Nebraska 41

Alabama vs Florida- Not only an SEC Championship but this game is also for a trip to Pasadena to play for a National Championship. This game is also a rematch of last years title game with a similar scenario as the Gators beat the Tide and won a National Championship while the Tide went on to loose to Utah in the Sugar Bowl. Tim Tebow is going to prove once again that he is the best leader in college football, his intensity is almost second to none and the Gators D is probably better than it was a year ago. Bama is coming off of an escape from Auburn as Ingram was shut down being held to 30 yards on 16 carries. If he has a similar result against the Gators McIlroy will have lots of added pressure and the Gators will likely force mistakes. Bama has a defense of their own ranking near the top of the nation. Bottom line is this: Tebow and the Gators offense are better than any offense Bama has seen and they will be exploited more than they are used to on Saturday. Ingram has a big day but Tebow comes through at crunch time giving the Gators a slim victory.

Alabama 21 Florida 24
